1895 Morgan Dollar is known as the "King of the Morgan dollars" because it is the rarest and most precious of the entire series Morgan Dollar. PF-68 specimens of this rare coin have sold for upwards of $ 120,000 in the auction.

Second record US Mint, there were 12,000 practice regular Morgan dollars has affected for the 1895 and 880 test specimens struck. However, only 75-80, Morgans were entered in 1895, all tests. Where did it go 12,000 more coins?

Even if the dollar Morgan was not very popular, when it first came out, we now know that is one of the most popular types of coins in the entire series of coinage USA. Because this change?

The answer is, millions and millions of Morgans! More than half a billion dollar Morgan were made between 1878 and 1904, largely because of a law called Act Bland-Allison, passed by Congress in February 1878, that the mandate that the Treasury has to buy 2 to 4 million troy ounces of silver per month!

The treasure was forced to buy this incredible amount of silver, which was flowing out of the Comstock Lode in Nevada, due to a group of silver mine owners who had formed a lobbying group. Led by Congressman Richard "Silver Dick" Bland, was able to pass a law that made treasure of United States his client silver largest lobby.

Of course, the Treasury had to do something with all this silver, so that is the Mint produce the head to freedom, aka Morgan silver dollars.

The book VAM, so named for the initials of its authors, enhanced really values of Morgan dollars in big time. This book lists all known varieties die Morgan Dollar series and got collectors to examine their currencies more attention to detail. The coins that have been assessed previously based on mintage known a particular year of X number of specimens, now had subcategories of specimens for that year based on variety of die. Sub-categories were naturally more scarce than any money from that year, so could, collectors who previously have been fulfilled with a copy of every year and Mint, now had to have other than each to complete the "set". For Morgan Dollar rare year/Peppermint variety of them all, 1895-plain, there are no specimens of business strike known to exist. And although 880 test specimens were affected according to records of Mint, there are various estimates for those that remain, ranging from 75 to 80, over 500! Some of the test specimens were distributed, usually by accident because the Mint package not always so well as they do today, but never was found no example of corporate strike of Morgan Silver Dollar of 1895.

Is out there? Possibly. If so, never comes to light, will be one of the most spectacular ever finds in Numis!
