The 50 state Quarters ® program was a series of United States Mint coins dollar neighborhood that honored to each of the 50 United States in the order in which they joined the Union. The program has started issuing coins in 1999 at a rate of five per year, until the entire 50 coins had been issued, with the final currency, Hawaii, coming out on November 3, 2008.
Congressional legislation that allowed the State quarters program was called the 50 State Commemorative coin Program Act (H.R. 3762 (PDF)). Was introduced on 11 July 1996 Michael Rep Castle (R-Delaware) and signed into law as PL 105-124 (PDF) on 1 December 1997. The Mint US developed an interesting system for determining which designs would be used for each State, which is described in the article about the design process of the fourth State.
The State quarters program is easily the most successful coin collecting series in history. The Mint US estimate that 147 million people have been collecting state quarters when the program ended in 2008. The State quarters program has not only drawn attention to the coin collecting in General, has provided the impetus for millions of new collectors to enter the hobby during the duration of the programme. Coin Values, for all types of currencies strongly upwards trend during the years of the programme of the fourth estate, and the wild success of Statehood has opened the door for more programs of a similar nature. Presidential dollar series, which is issuing four coins per year for at least 10 years honour all Presidents of THE U.S., for example, owes its very existence to the success of the program state quarters.
Although mintages subdivision of State are in hundreds of millions of coins (even more than a billion for different States), with 147 million people gather, that only leaves some coins for every collector first supply is exhausted. Some of the neighborhoods now I'm actually very scarce and bring prizes nice uncirculated coins as single or full Bank wrapped in rolls. If you're wondering what your Statehood Quarters worth if you took them to a reseller of currency to sell them today, here are two price guides of the District of State:
Although the formal 50 state quarters has expired, in 2009 will be released six quarters more very similar in design to the lodgings of the State. These neighborhoods will honor Washington D.C. and five territories of the United States. Enabling legislation is now 2764, which is a huge bill federal appropriations appended this provision related currency. The law of the territories and the D.C. spoke as "extension" of the State quarters program, but is actually a separate program entirely.
From 2010, each of the United States and territories, as well as Washington, D.C. will get another round of quarters, this time with a national park or national historic site within that State. The program of housing State national parks was created by (H.R. 6184). Take quarters at a rate of 5 per year for 11 years, with the possibility of a second round of the quarters of the year.
